HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY

Highland Heights players and the odds nobody explains.

There is college basketball inside the city limits at Northern Kentucky University, which makes the gap between a good high school player and a college player easy to see. Alex Grant trains Highland Heights players about ten minutes north.

01 / TRAINING IN HIGHLAND HEIGHTS

What are the real odds of playing college basketball?

Low, and worth knowing before a family spends years on it. The NCAA reported for 2024-25 that 3.6% of high school boys and 4.7% of high school girls basketball players go on to play NCAA basketball at any division. Highland Heights families watch college basketball in their own town, since Northern Kentucky University is here, and it is a useful reality check. The distance between a strong high school player and a college roster is larger than a highlight video suggests. Alex played three years of college basketball and captained his team, then spent eight years coaching at middle school, high school and college level, so he is describing something he watched from both sides.

That is not a reason to stop. It is a reason to train honestly. A player who does the repetition work gets better regardless of where it ends, and the skills hold up in a high school season whether or not a scholarship ever appears. What Alex will not do is tell a family a player is a college prospect because it makes the next package easier to sell.

02 / THE COURT

Where the sessions happen and how they run

Nothing runs in Highland Heights. Alex trains at three outdoor courts: Bellevue Beach Park, a court in Newport, and Swope. From Highland Heights that is roughly ten minutes north, straight down toward the river towns, and most families come after school.

Every plan is written per player, which matters more at this age than at any other. A guard who cannot finish with the left hand and a post who cannot catch in traffic do not need the same hour. Alex watches once, names the gap, then builds sessions around it. Campbell County High School players train here, and so do middle school kids who will end up there in a few years. The work is the same shape at both ends: reps, then reps under pressure, then decisions at game speed.

03 / AROUND HERE

Highland Heights notes

  • 01

    College basketball in town

Northern Kentucky University sits here, which gives local players an easy way to watch what college basketball actually looks like in person.

  • 02

    Campbell County players

A lot of players from this side of the county end up at Campbell County High School, and the work here is aimed at the roster spots they want there.

  • 03

    Honest assessment first

Alex tells a family where a player really is before selling them anything. That conversation happens after he has watched them play, not before.

05 / Questions

What families in Highland Heights ask

Do you train at a court in Highland Heights?

No. Three outdoor courts are in use and only three: Bellevue Beach Park, a court in Newport, and Swope. Highland Heights players drive about ten minutes north. Alex will not invent a local court to make a page sound closer to home. You get the exact court and time when the session is booked.

Will training get my child recruited?

Nobody can promise that, and anyone who does is guessing with your money. Training makes a player better, which improves their chances and improves their high school season either way. The NCAA numbers above are the honest backdrop. Alex has coached multiple 1,000 point scorers, two of whom reached it after starting development work with him, and he still will not promise anybody a scholarship.

How long is a session?

About an hour of working time, and it is genuinely working time. There is no waiting in line, no long talk at the start and no scrimmage to fill the end. Players finish tired. They also leave with two or three specific things to do on their own before the next one, because what happens between sessions decides how fast anything changes.
