COLD SPRING, KY

One plan per player, written after he watches yours.

Cold Spring families are usually fitting basketball around school, work and a drive. Alex Grant trains players from here at three outdoor courts about ten minutes north, on a plan built for the individual player rather than a stock workout.

01 / TRAINING IN COLD SPRING

How often should a player train to actually improve?

Once a week with real work done alone in between beats three sessions in a burst and then nothing for a month. Alex Grant trains Cold Spring players at outdoor courts about ten minutes north, $200 a session, and every plan is written for the specific player after he has watched them.

Consistency is the part families underestimate. Skill is built by repetition, and repetition only counts if it keeps happening. A player who trains every week through the spring and puts in twenty focused minutes on their own most days will be unrecognisable by autumn. A player who books four sessions in June and then stops will look exactly the same in November, and the family will conclude that training does not work.

So the sessions are designed to leave homework. Each one ends with two or three specific things to do alone, at whatever hoop the player has access to. Alex checks them at the start of the next session. Campbell County High School is where a lot of Cold Spring players are heading, and roster spots there go to whoever spent the off season working rather than whoever went to the most showcases.

02 / THE COURT

Scheduling and the drive north

There is no Cold Spring court in the rotation. Sessions run at three outdoor courts only: Bellevue Beach Park, a court in Newport, and Swope. From Cold Spring that is about ten minutes north, and most families take a late afternoon or early evening slot so it lands after school and before dinner.

Because the courts are outdoors, the calendar bends with the weather. Spring, summer and early autumn are the heart of it, and that lines up well with the off season anyway. A washed out evening gets moved rather than lost. If a family needs an indoor guarantee through a Kentucky winter, this is not the right arrangement, and Alex says so before anyone pays.

03 / AROUND HERE

Cold Spring notes

  • 01

    Built around one player

No stock workout. Alex watches first, decides what the actual gap is, and the sessions after that attack it until it stops being a gap.

  • 02

    Work between sessions

Every session ends with homework the player can do at any hoop. It gets checked next time, because that is where most of the improvement is made.

  • 03

    Ten minutes north

The drive is real and short. No court in Cold Spring is used, and nobody here will pretend otherwise to make the page sound more convenient.

05 / Questions

What families in Cold Spring ask

Can we book a single session to try it?

Yes. A single session is $200 and there is no obligation after it. That first hour is mostly Alex watching and testing, and it ends with a straight assessment of where the player is and what would need to change. Packages exist for families who decide to train regularly, with pricing discussed directly rather than posted on a page.

Do you train in the winter?

Every court is outdoors, so winter is limited by weather rather than by choice. There is no gym. Most Cold Spring players train hardest from spring through early autumn, which is also when a high school player has the room to change something, since the season is not consuming their legs and their evenings.

What if my player is new to organized basketball?

That is fine and often easier, because there is nothing to undo. A newer player spends more time on footwork, handle and shot mechanics before anything gets rushed. Alex has coached middle school, high school and college, so he is used to setting the level to the player rather than dropping a beginner into work built for somebody three years ahead.
